This story features environmental portraiture of Valdimar Benediktsson, the owner of Véltækni in Egilsstaðir, Eastern Iceland, and his collection of hundreds of rare and vintage cars from all around the world accumulated over the last 50 years. His collection consists of cars piled high in the yard slowly being battered by the harsh Icelandic elements. Emotionally extremely attached to his collection he found it hard to let the machines go and would only sell them if he knew they’d go to a good home and be restored. Due to poor health in 2022 he finally had to sell his company and full collection. One of the major joys of travelling to new places is the inevitability of coming across interesting people with a fascinating stories to tell.
