Running ultra-marathons is a sport that most find beyond their capabilities, requiring an active lifestyle that only a tiny percentage of people can sustain. It takes a certain type of person to subject themselves to such an ordeal, and Beth Pascall is one the best. By day, she is a paediatric doctor, but by night, she is an ultra-marathon fanatic. As lockdown restrictions of the Covid 19 pandemic eased, she set out to break the existing female record for the Bob Graham Round, ultimately completing it in 14 hours and 34 minutes, obliterating it by an hour and setting a new Fastest Known Time (FKT). The BGR is a loop of the Lake District consisting of 42 summits, 8000m of elevation gain, and covering roughly 106km. There is no set route, and athletes must simply complete all 42 peaks in under 24 hours. Pascall currently holds the 4th fastest time ever for both men and women.
