Traveling with an open mind is a thrilling adventure, where the destination is rarely the main objective. This proved to be true during a routine pitstop at a Walmart in Page, Arizona, where a chance conversation with a stranger over beer recommendations led my partner and I to accept an invitation to dinner at his trailer.
As we followed him through the back streets of Page, our overactive imaginations wondered what we were letting ourselves in for. But our concerns were soon put to rest when we were warmly welcomed by Dominic's family, who graciously shared their unique perspective as part of a Native American family under the then new Trump administration.
Over the course of the afternoon, we discussed everything from general lifestyle to family, Medicare, the economy, work, welfare, culture, and the challenges they faced. Dominic's insights were eye-opening and thought-provoking, leaving a lasting impression on us. It's difficult to convey in words just how impactful this experience really was, but I will always treasure the opportunity to connect with people from different walks of life.
